WPC vs "composite" — are they even different?

Not really. WPC stands for wood-plastic composite, and it's the material most "composite fencing" on the market is actually made from — a blend of wood fiber and recycled plastic, sometimes with a protective polymer cap layer. When a brand markets a product simply as "composite," it's almost always a WPC formulation underneath; the differences that matter are the wood-to-plastic ratio, whether it's capped or uncapped, and the manufacturer's quality tier, not a fundamentally different material category. Treat "WPC" and "composite" as the same option when comparing products, and pay attention to those sub-details instead.
